Please Help

We are going to 2 Orlando theme parks this weekend because we enjoy misery and pain. Actually, we got a free pass in the mail for being Florida residents. Walt Disney, Inc. knows that real Floridians would rather take a poke in the eye with a sharp stick than walk around all day in this kind of heat and humidity. My dilemma is that my legs are too white to wear shorts in public. That leaves capri pants, which is fine by me. Unfortunately, at this point in my life I'm not ready to pair sneakers and socks with capris. Only matching sandals/slides, preferably black. Every time we go somewhere that involves walking, Joe asks if my feet are going to start hurting. Last year blisters kicked vanity in the ass and I had to buy a pair of new sneakers mid-trip. Any suggestions from my real and imaginary friends?

Good luck to Alicia and Stephen who will have a new son this time tomorrow!

I say go with the sneakers & socks with the capris. Since no one else in their right mind from Florida will be there, you won't run into anyone you know. Or, start off with the slides but bring the sneakers & socks and put them in a locker until you need them. I had the same exact problem last year in Yosemite. Except I went with the flip flops and only the flip flops. I missed out on much of the beauty & slendor of that place because my feet hurt so bad I refused to walk. Have a fun time and don't drink out of any water fountains.

Who the hell are you? Gardening, gluten free bread, now THEME PARKS IN JUNE??? OMG...I am worried about you. I swear, if you start talking about the baby showers you are going to have with babies number 4 and 5, I'm out of here. Or any talk of swearing off Dunkin' Donuts. Or declaring self help books suck. I could go on...

Thank you Kasey. I completely forgot about locker rentals. Did A. give you a hard time about it at Yosemite? Men just don't understand the laws of fashion and vanity.

Christine - don't you dare leave me. And where is my fashion advice?

This real but electronic friend suggests well-fitting sandals. I've got ecco sandals - they cost me a small fortune, but they look good and I can walk for hours & hours in them.

As for going to a theme park in the summer time, well ... let's just say I'm looking forward to reading your blog entry about that experience!

i'd go along w/the well fitting sandals...but I HATE to wear socks in the summer (i'm such the florida girl). the ones that work the best for me (and are cute to boot!) are reef sandals. they are usually in those shoe superstores, like Rack Room Shoes, or Shoe Station or Shoe-o-rama or Shoes Fo' Yo' Mama or Shoes and Glasses. You know the ones.

I'm a little slap happy for some bizarre reason.

You guys are the best.

R - you kill me.

J - I love Keds. I wore the slip on ones for most of my teen years until my sister told me how uncool I was.

C - only you and me and Kasey know about shoes and glasses, right? I need to hear where that came from again.

I would try a pair of slip-on Vans or Keds, and get those get blister cover things that Dr. Scholl's makes - just go ahead and pack 'em in your purse, you know you'll need 'em.

BTW - nobody is going to take a photo of your feet - so bring the sneakers and socks as a back up.

All the suggestions are good ones. I too often find myself in similar dilemnas. I currently have a blister on the bottom of my foot because I thought the Talbot's leather sandal would last me 12 hours while setting up an exhibit hall - NOT!

I brought and should have wore my Skechers. No socks unless footies hidden. That would be my suggestion.

No, he didn't give me a hard time at Yosemite. He's good like that. But the next day when we went to Napa/Sonoma he did make sure I was wearing comfortable shoes before we left the hotel.
